> Time based project.
This was an interactive, time-based concept that allowed me to collaborate with other Bushwick artists and the community for Bushwick Open Studios the weekend of June 2nd and 3rd, 2012. I approached the girl who runs the venue where we exhibited, Body Actualized Center, an alternative venue that's really popular in Bushwick. We combined our ideas to construct the theme of a digital womb. It was to be a safe and nurturing place where the artist and visitors can have an experience that will enable them to create and explore while inside and exit rather refreshed and "reborn." First, we designed and built a large dome-like structure. To enter it, one had to enter a dark and narrow passage that would directly lead into a big open visually active space made from white plastic with four projectors casting videos from the outside. The videos were produced by different artists and constantly played. Inside the tent, there were yoga classes, meditation and performance art in the morning. In the evening there were DJ's and dancers. I directed and performed a short piece. It was a minimal and stationary arrangement where my dancers and myself dressed in dark purples and pinks with big sequence masks and translucent shrouds over our heads. The shrouds, when pulled over tightly resembled a type of embryonic tissue or sac. We moved differently throughout the space and depending on the time of the day. The point was to be an object that emphasized the womb aspect. Aside from the design, construction and performance, I performed vocals and distortion pedals in an experimental noise music group called Boring Acid. I also provided a video for the collection of projected visuals.
